Happy birthday to madolan, Zombie Empress.

Tomorrow after work, jenniever and I depart on our wideathtrip to madisonwi. Madison to Madison, with one small side trip to pick up jenniever's car. Holy shit, that means I need to pack tonight. WTF glorious regional treats from the NYC metro area should I bring?

This is amusing. It's like shmivejournal's RPS, but with Rambo. Not Rocky. Kingfox is dumb sometimes. But at least he knows Jersey geography.

UPDATE: Holy shit! My namesake died!

Feeling: hopeful hopeful

Thank you for the birthday greetings. I'm sorry I ate your namesake.

Heh, namesake was the wrong word

I realize I wasn't named for him, so he's more my homonym. Though Wordnet thinks namesake is valid.

I know this is more appropriate for wideathtrip, but I realized something we forgot to plan for. Sushi and/or karaoke!

But the zombies of which you speak are attacking B-grade actors. Not fellow high schoolers, at the orders of fellow high school terrorists.

Can't forget that farce. I'm still laughing over that one.

Brown gravy for diner fries.
Pork roll.
And a metric fuckton of Kandy Kakes.

what the hell is a pork roll?

I've lived here for 22 years and I have no idea.
kingfox From: kingfox Date: March 2nd, 2005 02:16 am (UTC) (Hard link)

where the hell are you?

I've tried calling your cell, your home line, and you're not on GroupWise. KG's over here playing M:TG with petemagyar, and we're talking about ordering food.

The pork roll is a part of the staple NJ diet.

Re: what the hell is a pork roll?

Even our school cafeteria sold them as the 'alternative' to whatever disgusting crap they were trying to shove down our throats... although they did make excellent Italian subs.

Disco fries!
Agreed on the pork roll.

It's hard for me to think of something to bring. If I was a PA resident, I'd bring scrapple. That's easy. But what do you bring from Jersey?

They don't have Kandy Kakes elsewhere?
dasubergeek From: dasubergeek Date: March 2nd, 2005 04:12 am (UTC) (Hard link)
No they don't have Kandy Kakes elsewhere, much to my GREAT chagrin. They're strictly a Jersey/Philly/NY thing. As are buttered hard rolls for breakfast from 7-Eleven.

As for what to bring from Jersey... uh... hm... lessee... saltwater taffy... can't exactly bring a pizza... cheesecake? Real New York cheesecake? When my uncle owned O'Henry's across from WHS (and later in Sewaren) I used to bring one of his cheesecakes, frozen, back to the Midwest every time I went home.

Blintzes? Bialys? Good bagels? Knishes? Cider donuts from Delicious Orchards? For that matter, trolley buns from D.O.? Pork roll, White Diamond System hamburgers, good fine diner food served by waitresses with blue hair and orthopaedic shoes, the best goddamn pizza in the world. These are the things I jones for now that I don't live in Jersey. But a lot of them aren't portable.

This thing is coming up quick like here. Do you guys have some kind of schedule of events planned out so I can try to intersect this joyful gathering at some point, hopefully with Sabyt? Since i've got plans with the girlfriend this weekend, it seems like thursday night might have the best shot, unless I can drag the girlfriend to some happening, since she's in Whitewater.

I haven't talked to Sabyt in a week or two, so i'm not sure what's going on with him, either.

Re: schizen

Friday afternoon and evening are booked, Saturday night is booked, and Thursday's filling up. Hmmm. I'm supposed to see comkilserv at some point on Thursday, but I think that's it so far. One of the days (or maybe Sunday on the way back) we're seeing Chicago. Other than that, I think we might be free.

It might be best to just give you my cell # and run from there.
