Rue De Jardin is the greatest

I know I've told a few of you crazy cats about Rue De Jardin before. This place has quickly risen to one of my top places in the_boke.

It's a small French place across the street from 7 Star, just blocks down from where I live. It's caddy corner from Church Square Park, the small community park that petemagyar and I decided to live near just for towelboy.

petemagyar and I walked past it dozens of times, night after night, always lamenting the fact that it was closed by the time we were out on the prowl. We were reduced to visiting bars, except for a night or two at Frozen Monkey. This place always caught our eye, always looked interesting, but its lack of nighttime hours dropped it from consideration for the most part. A few weeks ago, jenniever and I finally gave it a try one weekend during the day. The sign promising crêpes always caught our eye, and reeled us in.

The place has a warm atmosphere, full of your typical cafe staples that can be found in any coffee place from The Other End to Van Gogh's Ear to your local joint. The music selection is nice and eclectic. Every time we've been, one to three of these three (presumably) French people are working. We've seen them on the streets around the place, and watching television after the place is closed. This time there's some mysterious fourth employee working. The staff is incredibly nice and friendly, and seem to know the regulars quite well.

The coffee's good. I'm no periol or graye, but it's pleasing to my palate. But I'm usually not going there for the coffee, I'm all about the food. And oh, the food they have. Today I had a crêpe with raisins, goat cheese, and imported spicy lamb sausage. According to jenniever, they leave their goat cheese out just long enough to age to perfection. Every sandwich or crêpe comes with a simple salad with balsamic vinegar, just the way I love it. Usually I get Earl Grey tea, served in a decent sized pot.

Out of all the sandwiches, crêpes, and soups I've tried only one soup was lacking in flavor and petemagyar reported one salad being a little gritty. For the number of meals that the three of us have had here, and considering the reasonable price (especially for the_boke), that's pretty damn good. The food is wonderful, the drinks are great, and the wireless access is a nice bonus that I'm using right now.

So yeah, more of you crazy kids should visit jenniever, petemagyar, and I. We'll go out here.
