Where did we first meet?
I love you _sterno_.

Lifted by way of alyska:
Part of being on lj is that you end up gaining a number of lj buddies. Unfortunately, as age and the drink wear away at our brains, it's easy to forget where they all came from. Post this in your journal and have your friends respond with how they recall first meeting you.
In other news, I finally have windows. Soon I'll have an office again! Soon I'll have an office without skeeters!

Yet another XPSP2 delay.

Feeling: blah blah
Listening to: construction noises

I do believe you found me, actually. We filled up an entire reply thread of mine concerning everything from the Crazy Dutchman to a bunch of other things I don't remember, because Morsink kind've nabs your attention span. Has it been that long? Dood.
kingfox From: kingfox Date: August 5th, 2004 01:21 pm (UTC) (Hard link)
Yup. LJ at the end of November, then AIM, then months later meeting in person at last at the dance.
idunn From: idunn Date: August 5th, 2004 01:43 pm (UTC) (Hard link)
I knew who you were way before that though, as I always saw you and windexcowboy and all the rest migrating in a roving pack across campus. I kinda felt weird though about going up to you and saying, "Hey, it's _yggdrasil from livejournal!"

Because then my geekness would be complete.
redvector From: redvector Date: August 5th, 2004 03:04 pm (UTC) (Hard link)
that's the problem with me and illscientist. we work together, but I feel weird going up to him as LJ's redvector.
idunn From: idunn Date: August 6th, 2004 06:38 am (UTC) (Hard link)
Word. Because then you're identifying yourself as a computer-based entity.

Um, and that answer in and of itself sounds like the height of dorkitude. I give up.
kingfox From: kingfox Date: August 5th, 2004 05:45 pm (UTC) (Hard link)

I might have told you this story before...

So last fall, when jenniever was still avoiding LJ like the plague, she and I were working the satellite Helpdesk together. We're helping sophomores with their computers, but this freshman comes walking up to me.
``You're kingfox, aren't you? I recognize you from your LJ icon. I'm jennytenny!''
jenniever just shook her head sadly after jennytenny left.

Re: I might have told you this story before...

Ahem. Well. I seem to remember a certain blond who, at recent social gatherings, has introduced people based solely on their lj names ("redvector, meet _yggdrasil").
kingfox From: kingfox Date: August 5th, 2004 09:42 pm (UTC) (Hard link)

I won't deny my extreme level of dorkiness.

We were talking about feeling geeky about introducing ourselves to someone for the first time as less than lj user equals... Referring to someone in that way, while more dorky, is less nervousness inspiring, because you already know both parties.

Did that make any sense? I think I'm still napping.

I "met" you on cybersphere but I MET you at, I think, at kevlar's house.

Your shivs were always the best, but your pruno left something to be desired.

I tried so hard. all I wanted was to please you.
From: graye Date: August 5th, 2004 01:50 pm (UTC) (Hard link)
CS, during one of graye's great gear giveaways, pre-reset, I think, before you were bitted

haven't met you IRL yet

kingfox From: kingfox Date: August 5th, 2004 05:43 pm (UTC) (Hard link)

I honestly don't remember meeting you, pre-bitting. I remember meeting koan, zeek, egolds01, and many others pre-bitting. I remember reading your posts to WantAds, Meta, and Chat. But I don't remember actually F2F ICly meeting you. Am I forgetting something?

And yes, we haven't yet. It's on my to-do list.
graye From: graye Date: August 5th, 2004 08:32 pm (UTC) (Hard link)
See, I was trying to think.

I can't remember who you were pre-bit. Chavez? Something else? Something with a c? an R? I forget.

In any case, I vaguely recall having folks over for a pow wow in my pre-gregory (HATE THAT FUCKER) pad, and handing out fat wads of cash, crazy weapons, that sort of thing.

I -thought- you were one of them

I have no idea when I first ran across you post-bit at all.
kingfox From: kingfox Date: August 5th, 2004 11:32 pm (UTC) (Hard link)
Chavez was Demandred, and his characters were the NCSP leaders for a while. I was Kingfox, then Bob Dobbs, then I was bitted. Nothing original there, unfortunately.
Kingfox was a simple little geeky decker that got held up in the Syndrome, lived in the sewers for a while, and was eventually murdered in his sleep.
Bob Dobbs got a clone, and was a bit better off. Lived in Old City, and spent his days preaching to the bums. Killed a couple of KP/J farming alts, watched a few DocOc fights, spent most of his days hiding from zeek.

Post-bit I remember you approaching me about a couple of plots/ideas fairly early on.

IIRC, some mutual friends introduced us at a "Haunted Hayride" around Halloween about 2 or 3 years ago.
kingfox From: kingfox Date: August 5th, 2004 05:50 pm (UTC) (Hard link)
Yup, stepson and his other half's hayrides and parties. One of the first couple of times I saw you, you were wearing a Maiden shirt. I knew then that you had to be a good guy.
mrfantasy From: mrfantasy Date: August 5th, 2004 04:15 pm (UTC) (Hard link)

I never met you.

What I mean is, I never "met" you.

I knew of you when you worked in the TRC--you were that long haired, kinda goofy guy who always wore Iron Maiden T-shirts. But I don't believe we were ever formally introduced.

Same as when you got the AA job in AT. I knew of you, and knew you applied and were hired, but I don't think I ever got the old "Sherriff of Nottingham, Little John" routine out of the way.

By the time it would have mattered, we already seemed to know who each other were and no introduction was necessary.

Sound right?

Re: I never met you.

I think the first time I really became aware of you was that multi-day network talk you gave my sophomore year, for the topics in computer science class on networking. Despite not taking the class, all majors were invited, and it sounded like an interesting talk. It was a great passionate speech, as you're known for giving, even if dude talked way too fast. Every year I enjoy watching you give a short version of it to the kids.

During that talk, I met Alan for the first time. He was sitting in front of me. I think I've told you this already... You messed up while telnetting into a switch, and forgot to hit enter before putting in the password. I made a joke about having to go somewhere, he turned around and made a comment about not letting me out of the room alive. Years later, he's my boss's boss's boss.

Yeah, we never did get formally introduced. Funny. I never thought about that.

I met you on Cheers, or TIF, or one of those places... Jesus fucking hairy-chested Christ, that was twelve years ago.

Then I discovered that you lived two goddamn blocks away from me, yet we 'met' through some Monmouth County-based MBBS chat board.
kingfox From: kingfox Date: August 5th, 2004 11:37 pm (UTC) (Hard link)
I think Cheers was our first ``meeting'' I think. It's interesting that we never met on single line BBSes before that.
runstaverun From: runstaverun Date: August 7th, 2004 11:41 am (UTC) (Hard link)
you had a morning radio show, so you stopped by my room to pick up and drop off keys... but not from me...
kingfox From: kingfox Date: August 7th, 2004 12:03 pm (UTC) (Hard link)
Yup, from aaronkliger.

BTW, if you two are still interested in coming over, I'm just about to head up to the roof. So call my cell phone if'n you want to contact me.
