Dark City vs Matrix
Best comparison 3V4R. Thanks to caniswolfie for finding that gem.

Yesterday I was attempting to go home, when I was pulled into a debate of Matrix trilogy vs Star Wars trilogy (or do we consider all six) vs Lord of the Rings trilogy with take_a_shot, Dick, and allibear612. I threw the Holiday Special out there, and confused things by bringing The Undiscovered Country into the picture.

EA realizes shame.

Feeling: working working

The translation is amusing at times.

did you hear that Alex Proyas is doing Asimov's "I, Robot" next? I don't quite know how to feel about that.
thelastbandito From: thelastbandito Date: November 12th, 2003 01:07 pm (UTC) (Hard link)
Wasn't "I, Robot" already done with Willams as Bicentennial Man? Or was that another book?
noelr From: noelr Date: November 12th, 2003 02:28 pm (UTC) (Hard link)
another book. Bicentennial Man was (very loosely) based on the novella by the same title.
thelastbandito From: thelastbandito Date: November 13th, 2003 06:49 pm (UTC) (Hard link)
I remember reading Bicentennial man, and then watching the movie and thinking. This sucks ass compared to the book.

I would say that I'm happy that at least it's getting done. But I've said that about a few works and then been horrible upset at the results.

I was disappointed when I found out it wasn't that Harlan Ellison-adapted screenplay that's been circulating Hollywood since around the time of Star Wars, but Proyas has yet to disappoint me with a film so I think I'll trust him to not break my heart. On the other hand, that's what I said about the Hughes Brothers doing From Hell, and look how that all ended up.

this has nothing whatsoever to do with your post

BUT

you should check out that post, and the discussion, especially

also, you should really be watching control_group. The infamous Shane McKnight's LJ, by god
kingfox From: kingfox Date: November 13th, 2003 10:34 pm (UTC) (Hard link)
Like, wow. No one ever told me control_group was Shane McKnight. No one ever let on. I just assumed he was another random Wisconsin person. No cybersphere membership, no CS interest, de nada.

And like, wow, on the discussion as well. I shall comment heavily on it tomorrow.

Thank you, herr graye!!

In my usual trend of late, this comment has ostensibly nothing to do with your post. But you may enjoy this link if you haven't seen it already (likelihood: low, but, 'eh.)

You are my hero. Thank you.

Saw it when the first one or two had been done, left Mozilla running overnight, and it crashed before I could bookmark the page and lost it. This was well before the rest had been done, and I forgot to go back and look for it.

In the "Strange conicidence" department, FCF and I just watched "Dark City" last Sunday, just before your entry...

I had forgotten just how cool that movie is...
kingfox From: kingfox Date: November 18th, 2003 10:14 pm (UTC) (Hard link)
It's amazing... the direction, the photography, such a well done flick.

Ever see Requiem for a Dream?
cessna182 From: cessna182 Date: November 19th, 2003 08:32 am (UTC) (Hard link)
No! But it looks pretty good. I'll see if I can rent it.

Right now I'm in the middle of slogging through that HBO mini-series "Band of Brothers," the one about the Airborne in WW2. It's very, very impressive.
kingfox From: kingfox Date: December 10th, 2003 11:23 am (UTC) (Hard link)
I've heard great things about it.

Requiem is much like Leaving Las Vegas. You want to make sure that you're not seeing it in front of company that could be offended, and you want to be prepared for the movie to kick the shit out of you.
