In the Commons? Weird. Yay, I see people I know!

Yeah, Tolley-Brown lounge was completely re-done. They didn't really leave enough room for us to do handout there, the storage areas aren't nearly as secure as they once were, and someone didn't want us defiling their nice new showcase lounge.

So the Commons it was!

Aww, I really liked the old Tolley-Brown lounge! I kind of want to see what the new one looks like but it will probably disappoint me in the same way new Riker did.

Off-topic, what do you & windexcowboy have planned for the Wednesday afternoon you're in Portland?

Re: hah ha!

I guess that's another advantage to it being on a Saturday. Increased participation from alums, and increased viewership from those who can't watch from work.

I would like one, yes please.

You and me both, good sir.

These laptops are so awesome, they even fly with Vista on them.
From: the_azure_storm Date: September 1st, 2008 05:52 pm (UTC) (Hard link)
Vista you say? no sir.

Most of my summer was spent battling with it. And while I'm still not entirely happy with it (why the flaming hell is the sidebar turned off per-user in the software registry key windows policies and not in a group policy or available as a default off without importing the ntuser.dat?!?), on a machine that's built for it... it's not that bad. It's come a long way.

I'm probably exporting my current desktop at work over to an XP virtual machine and running it from within Vista soon.

yeah....what you said.

Phone was worse? Phone was worse?

Even with the extra boxes to connect to the wonderful CWIS, I don't think it's logistically as rough as it was with computer, bag, network adapter, printer, and forms/etc. bag (as it was in past years).

Did something bad happen like, say, a corrupted PDF causing Apache to crash on your phone handout server, causing the scanning to be tied up as they all time out, forcing you to do things by hand until you can figure out which PDF, then avoid that PDF until you can figure out how to fix the PDF, as eighty people are in line and zomg scripts you haven't touched in years are breaking?

I remember it was done out of the back of a truck behind the UC ... 16 years ago today.

I've heard tales of that epic handout. I'd love to see photos of it.

I'm sad I missed it... :-( I think Handout is one of the things I miss the most... Although far behind the Helpdesk as a whole.
I'm not sure I should regret seeing the massive mob of orange you all created. Those are... bright. ;-p
Hopefully everything went well, no major disasters?

No major disasters yet! Hundreds of new students are using Vista on their new Drew laptops, they're in the necessary domains and zones and working for the most part. I slept a lot better that night.
