I'm alive, they haven't eaten me yet...
For those who can't translate .ogg files, yeah, I'm really still alive off on our wideathtrip. jenniever and I left the_boke after work Wednesday, and drove on into the night. In Lewisburg I took the wheel from her, and we continued to fight through the light snow. Less than a hundred miles from Indiana in Ohio, we crashed at a rest area on the side of the road for an hour and a half. After that we drove into Chicago.

Gave her a quick tour, including the drive along the lake from the Museum of Science and Industry. We scooted about the downtown region for a bit, then dashed up to madisonwi. assfingers had taken off early from work, so we drove to his house. He let us both have showers, we hung out for a while, and we got a tour of the town. Giant domes, ice fishing, visiting comkilsrv at work, and cool shit abounded! We then went over madolan and hotbeatz's place, where the former had dinner prepared for all of us. After dinner we went to Irish Waters, and had a good time. Pictures from said good time can be found here and there. One day when less drunk, I'll caption them or something.

The next day we took care of some things. We ended up having lunch with birthday boy adamgreeney, maelel, hotbeatz, and madolan at a local meat/cheese/sandwich/whatever place. AND THEY ONLY SERVED VERMONT CHEDDAR! Then jenniever got her car fixed, kingfox got his eyes fixed, a bunch of us had dinner, I called graye while madolan was running errands with us, and we went out to Essen Haus. Pictures from said good times can be found here. Many people got drunk dialed by a pack of roaming LJers. In fact, a couple of us believe that it was the largest grouping of people we'd been to where every single person has had an LJ. And I've been to some decent sized gatherings where that was the case.

Tomorrow assfingers buys us cheese, and I dress up for a spy night in Milwaukee. Expect more incoherent phone posts.

Feeling: drunk drunk
Listening to: madolan wishing us a good night

I must admit I did try and transcribe at least one of your phone posts, though I can't entirely get what you're saying through background noise and not being used to the accent, didn't want to post incomplete transcriptions.

Have fun.

The accent??

How would you describe my accent?

Yeah, as I was making the phone posts, I thought that they might be hard to transcribe. Between the drunken carousing, the loud polka music, and my drunken stumbling with the phone I expected it to be rough. Thank you for trying!

Re: The accent??

I have just learned that my home PC is the yin to my work PC's yang.

The work one has no sound capabilities, while the home one doesn't have software that recognizes phone posts.

I suppose I could fix that.

We're awake!

madolan just cooked crepes, and hotbeatz prepared a killer egg and tomato dish. So we're showered, dressed, and ready to see the lovely sights of downtown madisonwi.

You should call jenniever's cell. Mind you, we could have called you, but we're all LJ dorks. And I think you'll respond to this pretty fast.

Re: We're awake!

I have secured yioyour phone posts!

adamgreeney's are still suspiciously not working.

On to more pressing matters:

We're both showered, as well, and are looking forward to Cheese and various other State St endeavours. Shall we come snag you?

Re: We're awake!

Certainly! Come on over!

Re: We're awake!

girl is doing her hair.

we'll be over in 6 to 8,000 minutes.

I have no idea what takes girls so long do do things.

Re: We're awake!

I tried calling your cell to see what was up, and instead just left a voicemail.

And by voicemail, I mean that I said something directed at you to the error message.

Yeah, we're here and chilling and ready for when you're able.

Re: We're awake!

May I just say, for the record, that all along I've been encuranging Russ to call you instead of posting to livejournal to let you know that we were fully fucntional.

But Nooooooooooo. Russ said Livejournal was faster.

Also, I love cheese.

Re: The accent??

I'm Australian, generally I can get accents but there isn't background noise when I'm talking to people, plus it's MUCH easier to do in person due to lipreading.

As for describing it, I don't know them well enough to descern with any specifics, it just sounds American to me.
kingfox From: kingfox Date: March 10th, 2005 10:34 pm (UTC) (Hard link)

Re: The accent??

I want specifics! I'm always fascinated to hear what the stereotypical USian accent sounds like. You guys are all g'day throw another shrimp on the barbie, the British are all cheerio old chap, bloody hell and all that. I want our grossly generalized awful stereotypical accent and sayings.
chrome_storm From: chrome_storm Date: March 11th, 2005 07:00 am (UTC) (Hard link)

Re: The accent??

To begin with, it's not stereotypical, its also not what you say, it's how it sounds. That's what an -accent- is, sound on a word/letter, not what is said.

I don't believe, and haven't ever believed 'Americans' as a whole have some specific language that is stereotyped, about the only stereotypical comments I've heard regarding the British is some bullshit about the queen, fish/chips and tea/crumpets. I know a fair few british people, they word nearly everything the same way the people I know in my country and all over the world. They just sound the letters/words differently. Everybody I speak to in America, Europe, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, pretty much everywhere that speaks english speaks the same way apart from the occasional word that they don't know, but have their own different word for.

You going to The Safe House?
kingfox From: kingfox Date: March 5th, 2005 05:39 pm (UTC) (Hard link)

Of course!

That's on the slate for tonight. An insane number of LJers will be at that as well. My goal is a Mission Impossible.

Wait, how do you know about The Safe House?

Wait, how do you know about The Safe House?

One learns many things at GenCon. ;)

Re: Of course!

Aaaaah, that makes perfect sense. So you've been there before, I take it?

I'm currently sitting in hotbeatz and madolan's place with adamgreeney, maelel, and jenniever. We're about to leave with assfingers and back2me.

Re: Of course!

Been there, and have the glassware to prove it.

Though not all the glassware. wroughtironkite made it a point to have one of each drink so we could have a variety of glasses, but unfortunately everyone thought everyone else had packed those glasses and they stayed behind in the hotel room.
kingfox From: kingfox Date: March 10th, 2005 10:38 pm (UTC) (Hard link)

Re: Of course!

I was tempted to go for all of the glasses, or two Mission Impossibles, but I didn't. I got one Golden Eye, one Mission Impossible, and the shot that comes in a special glass. Mmmmm.

Re: Of course!

No Spy's Demise glasses? (That's all we ended up with.)

Less than a hundred miles from Indiana in Ohio, we crashed at a rest area on the side of the road for an hour and a half.

I didn't parse this as 'sleeping'... o.O

Stay out of the Burger King on South Kinnickinnic after dark, BTW. I still have nightmares.
kingfox From: kingfox Date: March 6th, 2005 01:05 am (UTC) (Hard link)
If we hadn't crashed in the sleeping sense of the word, we would have crashed in the other sense of the word.

Thanks for the warning!

If you're by any chance back in Madison on Sunday, do be sure to hit State Street. I'll be vending jewelry in the 500 block (by BW3 and Potbelly's), look for the blue hair, feathered hat, sparkly jewelry between noon and 4. And yes, you can have a free pretty. You reset my CS password often enough every time I forgot it, I figure I owe ya one. See ya, hopefully, Teeka/Zena/Maggs (of Maggs Creations, clothing designs in CS, jewelry designs in real life)
kingfox From: kingfox Date: March 10th, 2005 10:38 pm (UTC) (Hard link)

Unfortunately, we did State Street Saturday during the day, and were on the road Sunday morning.
