I was sort of shocked by the news, but on the other hand I was getting a little tired of hearing about Stern whining about how much Viacom sucked while he was on their payroll.

Now we can look forward to him filling dead air with, "Man, in X months, things are going to be different" instead of, "Man, in X days, they're going to fire me"

Ummmm....

When did he say Viacom sucked?

I've heard him praising Viacom hundreds of times. When ClearChannel dropped him in so many markets, Viacom picked him up in those markets and he had nothing but kind words for them. When Viacom changed leadership, he spoke highly of the old guard and the new guard.

I'm wondering what the tone will be. I wonder what it would be like on Sirius in Kerry's USofA, and what it would be like on Sirius in Bush's USofA.

forgive the laconic per-coffee comment

and allow me to make a more lucid point. You were right that Howard never outright said that Viacom sucked, however he did claim that they limited him and stopped his creative growth potential.

Further, as much as I like Howard I’m going to be sooooo happy to finally hear him stop his complaining about the F.C.C. I understand that there has been a long, protracted conflict between shock jocks and the F.C.C. over what is protected free speech and what isn’t, but whenever Stern would start in his, "This is what’s wrong with America, the F.C.C…" I’d switch channels to the opiate that is 97.5 PST.

An interesting note, by the by, that Howard went to Sirius and O&A were just signed to the rival XM. I know that Sirius approached Howard, but I’m curious if XM made any offers. I guess Howard and/or XM wanted to avoid another (uncensored) rivalry between the two vulgar juggernauts.

No worries

The other thing that's interesting about Opie and Anthony - their station is a premium station on XM, requiring an additional fee. Stern's main one of the three he's getting, the one that his actual show will be on, will require no additional fee.

animal similies abound

Huh. They've really screwed the pooch...so now not only do their listeners need to buy a subscription to XM, they also need to buy the HBO version of it? Don't get me wrong, I'm a hardboiled Stephen Lynch fan, but I'm not buying XM+ to get an interview with him every 3 months. Their show jumped the shark the first time they tried their Sex-o-lympics and I'd be surprised if they have any new material to fill their premium channel with.

Re: No worries

Yeah, but the thing is that even with the additional fee for O&A it is still cheaper than Sirius. Plus, XM has much better receivers and technology than Sirius.

I got my XM a month ago just to listen to O&A and I'm pretty happy with it.

Was great when they went off on Stern's hypocritical ways on Monday.

Yep, yep. I'll probably be buying a satellite radio about a year from now.

My car's an ancient piece of shit, so I'm wondering if it'll even be on the road in fifteen months. Something to consider.

Hell, I'd get the subscription and no unit just to listen to it online at least.

I find it funny that at first I couldn't connect to sirius.com

Way to instill confidence.

Yeah, their servers have been going up and down ever since the announcement was made.

I think one of the big problems with stuff on satellite radio is that the limitations are what makes things sort of funny.

Profanity is more funny when it's like you're getting away with something. How can you push the limits with nothing blocking you?
