Things I'd like to hear opinions on!
With all this man on man hot marriage action, and this woman on woman sexy legal intertwining, how is that going to affect common law marriages?

If I end up living with petemagyar for years, can I take him for half of what he's worth?

Discuss.

For those that use Vonage and the like. Do you know if pulse dialing works with the Cisco/Motorola device that you got?

Discuss.

Four-car accidents on the Pulaski Skyway suck. Ambulence blocking one direction trying to turn around, mangled cars blocking the other direction.

Why aren't you playing Falcon's Eye on thedenbbs?

Discuss.

What do you usually put under Current Music? Something you're listening to as you start the post, finish the post, or just fitting music that might not be on?

Discuss.

Feeling: happy happy

I wish BRE had the market that FE has. Buying from other nations is done automatically, making trading a viable easy user-friendly thing to do, instead of the complicated series of menus you have to navigage in order to buy something from someone else in BRE.

The races rock. Empire A being different than empire B in a number of fundamental ways really rules. It's one major reason I prefer Alpha Centauri to Civilization.

The buildings do rock. Making it so that you don't just grab land and suddenly you've got all the power that the other person who had that land did is a nice twist. Having workers with different roles really adds a great level of complexity. You don't just get money for tourism without any population working there, you don't just get taxes for feeding your people. They're working members of society you pay.

And, getting back to the different races, the paragraph I just wrote isn't always true. The wolves have no buildings and have a different playstyle. The ghouls don't pay workers, and get nothing from free trade agreements.

I think Common Law Marriage only occurs if the two people in question behave as though they are married in public. Assuming the state in question even has Common Law Marriages.

What do you usually put under Current Music? Something you're listening to as you start the post, finish the post, or just fitting music that might not be on?

This is a really good question. I always put what I'm listening to when I finish the post. Sometimes I try to type faster if I'm listening to a really good song, or slower if I'm listening to a crappy song, just so I can put the coolest song in my "Current Music" box.

A co-worker of mine, not the one who came up with the question initially, pointed out that only a few states recognize common law marriages. He's pretty sure that none of them have gay marriage yet, so it's not an issue... yet.

Interesting. Sometimes I'll put the cool song in, even if it ended a few minutes before I got done linking everything up. Often I end up putting a television show, person talking, or some other non-music noise in.

I somehow got the idea into my head that I'd be "cheating" if I listed a song that wasn't actually playing when I submitted the entry.

Of course, I'm not above finishing up quickly to submit it before the song ends, and then going back to proofread/edit it.

I am aware that this is totally insane, but the fact that I've built up all these irrational behaviors around it is why I found your question so interesting. I'm sure different people have developed very different attitudes about it.

That's why I posed it. People develop these little OCD behaviors involving things like Friendster, LJ, and the like that I find absolutely fascinating. Humanity wrapping around technology in odd little patterns.

What's playing as I type into the current music field

Anything else would be, well, lying.

current music: Marillion - Neverland

Re: What's playing as I type into the current music field

Ah. Good answer.

But do you delay filling out that field if you're listening to Ace of Base, only to fill it out quickly when some prog rock song comes on? Do you fill it out the moment before submit is hit consistently?

Re: What's playing as I type into the current music field

Usually, it doesn't take me longer than 1 song to write something, so it's never really come up.

You know, I actually thought Ace of Base were sort of catchy.

Re: What's playing as I type into the current music field

That's true. You're not the type for the long melodramatic fountains of digital drivel that people spray all over the place.

But your E2 profile is such a nice little rant. You fit a lot of punch into a little space, like the opposite of graye.

1.) I know that if a male-female pair live together for seven years, the law considers them in a common law marriage, even if they are not involved with each other at all. It happened to two friends of mine from college.

2.) Don’t know; I don’t use Vonage.

2a.) Accidents on the Chicago Skyway suck just as much.

3.) Haven’t had the time. Sorry.

4.) If I’m typing away, like right now, and there’s no music, then I list whatever’s playing in my head. Right now, it’s “Lawyers, Guns and Money” by Warren Zevon. Otherwise, it’s what’s playing as I’m finishing up.

1) I thought there were clauses for 2BR apartments, or based on the number of beds present for some states?
Also, the question is how this now applies with gay marriage becoming legal. Will we have gay common law marriage?

2a) I can imagine, I remember that road. Though it's a bit wider than the Pulaski, I think.

3) No worries. But it only takes ten to fifteen minutes a day! All the cool kids are doing it!

4) I used to do it that way, but I stopped bothering to type what was in my head at some point. I don't know why.

New Jersey doesn't recognise common law marriage anymore. Sorry, bucko. The grandfather date was before you (and I) were born.

I don't use Vonage. I use Ma Bell, aka SBC.

One-car stupidity manifestations on the 101 suck even worse. They cause traffic to be bollocksed up for hours and me to just turn the fuck around and go home and telecommute.

I don't play computer games.

All of the above wrt: the music question. Sometimes I play a song just so I can not be lying when I say I'm listening to it because it just fits the post too well.
kingfox From: kingfox Date: March 19th, 2004 04:34 pm (UTC) (Hard link)
But what if we moved together to a common law state that then legalized gay marriage? What then?

Vonage rocks. If you have high speed internet, you should use it.

The traffic in your area of the world, much like your random senseless crime, is legendary.

But it's old school BBS door games! You can pretend you're on Cheers again!

1. Half of what he's worth. So you get the amp and some guitar picks?

2. The only game I have on this laptop is Mahjong Towers II.

3. I usually try to fit everything I've listened to, but if I can't I usually put what I'm listening to as I finish the post. Or, if it's been a real long playlist, only list the ones relevant to the post..

4. Love, Power, and Peace to you and your kin.
kingfox From: kingfox Date: March 19th, 2004 04:38 pm (UTC) (Hard link)
  1. He's already gone on a rant about songwriter rights, about how if he wrote a song and I happened to be in the same room while he worked on it, I would be entitled to half of the profit.
  2. But it's not on your laptop. It's here. All computers can run it, just about.
  3. Understood. I hate when it's too long for the text field. That burns me. But maybe I should stop hyperlinking my current music.
  4. Love and peace! Love and peace! Love and peace!
towelboy From: towelboy Date: March 19th, 2004 05:06 pm (UTC) (Hard link)

Kirk was secretly developing the Genesis torpedo

1. In that case, I want to come over during a week long jam/recording session.

2. Well, I know that. I was just talking about my particular laptop.

3. You can hyperlink the current music field?

4. Bi lai kafa.

I'm a lying, cheating bastard

I write in the coolest song I can think of, even if i'm actually playing something really lame. Cos looking cool comes before fundamental ethics. bitches.

(also, i stopped using the current music bar more than a year and a half ago...but that's what I did when I actually used it)

That icon is too cute for words.
